linking verbs

Link the relationship between the agent and the rest of the sentence. A frequent example are forms of the verb “to be” functioning as linking verbs in examples such as:

“This is beautiful.”

“My dogs are content to spend the afternoon dozing on the kitchen sofa.”

Other examples of frequently used linking verbs are:

“My dog seems content to spend the afternoon dozing on the kitchen sofa.”

Certain verbs have the linking verb function as part of their inventory of functions, but more likely function as full verbs:

“He feels drowsy.”
